James Willbanks hadn’t pedaled a bicycle much in some 50 years, when a friend suggested he look into electric bikes as his next business venture. He’d lost his motorcycle dealership during the 2008 recession, and was considering next steps, so he took the tip. Pedego Electric Bikes rose to the top of his research results.

“People don’t necessarily want to carry their bikes somewhere, because they feel like if they leave home, they won’t be able to get back,” he says, jokingly referring to riders such as himself as “short, fat old guys having fun riding bikes” because they discovered Pedego. “I have to get down a huge hill to get where the bike trails are; I can get up that hill now.”

The store sits within easy pedaling distance to a 14-mile loop trail between Big Dam Bridge and the William J. Clinton Presidential Library to the east and Two Rivers Park to the west, for a ride full of tree-lined scenery along the Arkansas River.
