2. Capital Crescent Trail

To begin your journey to Washington D.C. and the National Mall, make your way to the Capital Crescent Trail. The Capital Crescent Trail is a 7-mile, shared-use rail trail that runs from Bethesda, Maryland to Georgetown in Washington D.C. This beautiful trail is tree-lined and covered in greenery making for a gorgeous ride to the nation’s Capital. Whether you plan to ride the trail during the week or on the weekends, it is guaranteed to be occupied by fellow cyclists and pedestrians. Along the way, you will ride next to the historic Potomac River which offers lovely views so be sure to pull your Pedego over and snap a few photos.

3. Lincoln Memorial

The first monument on this historic tour is the Lincoln Memorial, which is a commemorative statue of Abraham Lincoln that stands 19 feet tall and is located at the far western end of the National Mall in D.C. In addition to the Lincoln statue itself, the interior of the memorial features various murals and inscriptions of the revered President’s most important speeches such as the Gettysburg Address and his second inaugural address. The Lincoln Memorial has been named a “must-see” for every visitor to the nation’s capital by washington.org and towers over the Reflecting Pool at the western end of the National Mall.

4. Jefferson Memorial

In the springtime, Washington D.C. is iconic for having beautiful cherry blossom trees bloom, lining the streets with beautiful tiny pink flowers. This is one of the best times to visit the city and see the Jefferson Memorial in all its splendor. As you might assume, the Jefferson Memorial is a monument to honor the third president of the United States, Thomas Jefferson.

It is located in East Potomac Park on the south bank of the Tidal Basin. In 1934 it was authorized for construction as part of a beautification program for the nation’s capital. Although it was opposed by various people due to their worry of destruction to the cherry trees, the Classical design it boasts, and the fear that the monument would ruin the spectacular vista of the Potomac River, it eventually began construction in 1938 with the backing of President Franklin Roosevelt’s support. After the memorial’s completion, it was dedicated on April 13, 1943, which was the 200th anniversary of Jefferson’s birth.

5. U.S. Capitol

At the eastern end of the National Mall is the U.S. Capitol Building. The U.S. Capitol is the meeting place where both the Senate and House of Representatives come together to discuss, debate, and deliberate national policy, develop consensus, and craft the laws of the country. This building is one of the most symbolically important buildings in the world and has been deemed one of the most architecturally impressive. The Capitol is also a museum of American art and history, so if you have time to spare, feel free to lock up your Pedegos and take a look inside to witness the history of our nation.

6. White House

This incredibly famous and historic building may not need an introduction, but on your tour through Washington D.C. the White House is an absolute must-see. Commonly known as the residence of every U.S. president, the large white is a symbol of American history and democracy. Each president of the United States has lived there, ever since 1800 when John Adams was in office. According to the White House itself, it is not only a place where the President and First Family of the U.S. live and work– but can also be considered the ‘People’s House’, where the hope is that all Americans feel a sense of inclusion and belonging.

7. Washington Monument

The Washington Monument was built to honor George Washington, the first president of the United States and the commander-in-chief of the Continental Army. It was once the tallest building in the world, standing just over 555 feet. After undergoing years of renovations, the Washington Monument reopened in 2019. It was improved with a state-of-the-art elevator that can move hundreds of visitors up to the observation deck daily. Venture up to the top, if you dare, as you are guaranteed to see one of the most breathtaking, bird’s eye views of Washington D.C. From the observation deck, you can see nearly 25 miles in each direction, and you may even spot some of the previous stops on the tour. This is definitely a stop you will want to take some time at, so feel free to lock up your bikes and take a ride 50 stories up– you will truly get to experience everything D.C. has to offer.

2 15th Street NW

8. Vietnam Memorial

The final stop on the tour before heading back to Pedego Bethesda is the Vietnam Memorial. The Vietnam Memorial pays tribute to the brave members of the U.S. Armed Forces who fought in the Vietnam War and were either killed or missing in action. The memorial is separated into three different parts: “The Three Soldiers” statue, the “Vietnam Women’s Memorial”, and the “Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall”, also known as “The Wall That Heals” – which is recognized as the most popular feature. The memorial is open 24 hours a day, but if you visit it between 9:30 AM and 10 PM, then there will be a ranger on duty to answer any questions you may have. Feel free to take a moment and pay your respects before departing on your journey back to Bethesda.

The Perfect Pedego for Your Ride

Pedego Bethesda offers a few different bike options for rental, but our recommendation for this ride is one of our Interceptors. The Pedego Interceptor is America’s best-selling electric bike, as it combines beach cruiser comfort and style with breathtaking performance and user-friendly features. It will allow you to ride with ease through D.C., and if it feels like it was made just for you – that’s because it was!

The Interceptor is offered in two different models, Classic and Step-Thru. The Step-Thru model provides a comfortable and easy way for you to step through to the other side of your bike; whereas, the Classic frame is built higher and requires you to swing your leg over the seat to get on. Regardless of which model you choose– comfort is something that won’t be compromised.

Once you decide on which Interceptor model you prefer, it’s time to get on and ride! You can get a good workout by altering your Pedal Assist settings or use the throttle and cruise along if you are interested in a more laid-back ride.

Unsure about which Pedego model would be best for you? The friendly faces at Pedego Bethesda are more than happy to assist you with any questions you may have. To see the complete range of Pedego electric bikes available, check them out here.

Look no further than Pedego Irvine to rent a bike and cycle through the bike-friendly pathways the city has to offer.

Irvine Ranch is a historically vast area covering modern-day Laguna Beach, Tustin Ranch, Newport Beach, Anaheim Hills, Orange, and of course Irvine. In the 1960s renowned architect and city planner William Pereira created plans for the greater cities of Irvine and Newport Beach. The designs for the City of Irvine incorporated many, many bike trails and walking paths to encourage walking and bike transit. Historically, the Irvine family and company were early backers of the bicycle. In fact, in 1889, James Irvine II traveled from San Francisco to the Irvine Ranch to survey the land he was to inherit on a bicycle called a velocipede. Irvine’s journey south took lots of energy and sweat on rough roads, but we can see the lands he inherited and developed, from the comfort of a Pedego Electric Bike. Irvine has over 360 miles of bikeways so you can explore, connect, and enjoy Irvine in a way that no other city can compare. James Irvine II would be proud of how friendly his City is to biking and walking with its bountiful paths and trails. We have a pleasant route in mind that shows off some of the lovely bikeways and notable locations in Irvine.

1. Pedego Irvine

Start your adventure at Pedego Irvine! There are many different choices of Pedegos to choose from at minimal rates. Furthermore, trailers are available to bring on the little ones or your furry friends. Pedego Irvine is centrally located to allow you to get to the Tustin Hangars, Shady Canyon, the Orange County Great Park, and even Upper Newport Bay. The best thing is that on a Pedego, at any age or fitness level, you can go anywhere you desire.

3800 Barranca Pkwy Suite J

Irvine, CA 92606

2. South Lake Gazebo and Island

Irvine is home to two main lakes: the north and south lake. These lakes in addition to the coastal air help keep the inland Irvine area temperate during the summer months. The south lake has a pleasant gazebo looking over the water and a central island for bikes and pedestrians to cross sides of the lake. Birds in migration love to stop by both of these lakes as a cool pit-stop on their journeys. From here, there are a plethora of bikeways to choose from to ride.

4624 Alton Pkwy

Irvine, CA 92604

3. University of California Irvine / Aldrich Park

The University of California Irvine, better known as UCI, was also designed by William Pereira, subsequently, there are plenty of paths to take to explore the campus area. In the center lies Aldrich Park. This park is the perfect place to bring your lunch and have a picnic, study, or take a stroll. Adjacent to the park is many school buildings, a sculpture garden, and the Langson Library. The unique design of the library is reflective of the artistic qualities of his architecture. Be certain not to fall asleep in the tranquil park because we still have plenty of beautiful trails and destinations to cover.

4. Turtle Rock Viewpoint / Chaparral Park

This small hill is optimally positioned to get a stellar view of Newport Center, UCI, and businesses near John Wayne Airport, along with more natural views to the south and east with hillsides and nice houses. When you arrive at Chaparral Park to get to the viewpoint, sadly you will have to dismount and lock up the bikes at the park to walk up the steps to the viewpoint to the north. Besides, this park is a nice checkpoint for the next leg of the journey.

Chaparral Park

Irvine, CA 92603

5. Shady Canyon Hiking and Biking Trail

Along Shady Canyon Drive are several trailheads and a main hiking and biking trail that runs parallel. If you have the time, the Bommer Canyon trail is absolutely splendid but it can really work up a sweat. Bommer Canyon is a fun labyrinth of trails that leads into Crystal Cove State Park, so plan ahead which ones you will take so you do not get lost in the thrill. Besides Bommer Canyon, the Shady Canyon trail leads along the road with a slight uphill, but nothing a Pedego can’t handle! As you journey up, to the left you will see down into Strawberry Farms Golf Course and it is quite a sight. The hiking and biking trails are mostly separated along the road, but be sure to stay on the paved portions as those are the bike trails.

Shady Canyon Dr.

6. Quail Hill Loop Trail

This short 1.8-mile loop trail is a relaxing ride with views of the entire area. If you are getting a little tired of riding bikes, this would be an ideal trail to stretch your legs. While on the trail, just like in the name, quails can be seen ducking in and out of bushes and shrubs. This trail is just slightly uphill, so it is best to go clockwise around to get the downhill on the return. The fields of grasses here get very tall at certain times of the year, so riding up high on a Pedego Electric Bike allows you to have great visibility.

7. *Optional* Great Park OC, Sidewalks only

The Great Park in East Irvine is a former Marine Corps Air Station by the name of El Toro. In recent years, this land has been reclaimed into many sports fields, parks, and ball courts. When you arrive, there is a giant orange helium balloon that you can ride up into the sky for an epic view of all of Orange County and a nice hangar museum that tells some nice local history. There is a caveat; because this land was out of the Irvine city master plan’s jurisdiction, there are no dedicated bike paths that lead there, only sidewalks. Furthermore, because several major freeways and highways intersect nearby, the sidewalks and their respective crossings are a little difficult to cross. We would recommend this park on this journey only if you are comfortable with crossing these busy streets.

8. North Lake Gazebo

The north lake and the south lake are very close and very similar, however, the north lake is a better rest stop because of the food available in the center to the south such as hand-crafted pizza or an Asian lunch cafe. This area is accessible by a convenient footbridge. From the south lake, you can also easily access this center by taking the small footbridge across San Diego Creek.

4615 Barranca Pkwy

Irvine, CA 92604

9. North Lake Island and Return

The north lake is an excellent little loop around the water, you can go either way, but the island in the center is where it starts to loop back. This little island has a little gazebo to boot. To get back to Pedego Irvine, all you need to do is follow either the San Diego Creek Trail north, or Barranca Parkway north until you get back to the center.

1 Islandview

Irvine, CA 92604

bike route in Irvine, CA
North Lake Island and Return

Above we have some images of the route. Although this route says 2 hours, that is on a standard pedal bike at around 10 miles an hour, on a Pedego Electric Bike, this route non-stop should take just under an hour and a half. Of course, we encourage enjoying your time at your leisure, subsequently, our recommended time is 2 to 2 and a half hours.

The Best Pedego For Your Ride

For this ride, we recommend the City Commuter for its comfortable ride and its overall versatility and practicality for this journey. The pedal assist and twist throttle features on the city commuter allow you to passively aid yourself as you go along and give you power when you need it. Furthermore, the City Commuter, despite the name, can handle itself on the less strenuous trails and bumpy paths. For those interested in the Bommer Canyon excursion, the Element would be the better option because of the aforementioned features plus fat tires for a better grip on that softer terrain.

Galveston is a hidden gem off the Gulf Coast of Texas. Between its gorgeous Gulf Coast views and unique charm, Galveston is the perfect place to explore from the seat of an electric bike — better yet, a Pedego! Whether you are a traveling tourist or an everyday local, seeing the coast of Galveston from a Pedego is an experience second to none. What are you waiting for? It’s time to gather your loved ones and head to Pedego Galveston because the perfect day awaits!

Planning the Perfect Day

1. Start at Pedego Galveston

Pedego Galveston offers a full range of e-bikes for rental or purchase to ensure that you find the perfect fit for the day ahead of you. From Interceptors, to Comfort Cruisers, to even Pedego’s speciality models, Pedego Galveston has a plethora of choices. Don’t get too overwhelmed though, because this will be the only tough decision of the day!

With a Pedego bike, you are sure to have a great time, no matter what your fitness level or age is. Pedego allows you to get in a hard workout if you desire, or just sit back and enjoy the ride, and once you are ready to hop on your bike and get going, it’s time to start exploring down the Seawall.

782 Seawall Blvd, Suite B
Galveston, TX 77550

2. Hotel Galvez

Your first stop is going to be at Hotel Galvez, located across the street from the Seawall. It is one of the most historic hotels in Galveston, and is rumored to be haunted– if only the walls could talk! Built in 1911 for the then extravagant cost of $1 million, the Galvez Hotel has been intertwined in the island’s history for generations. In 1994 it was added to the list of Historic Hotels of America and is still known today as an elegant, vibrant destination for travelers all around the world. Both the hotel and city of Galveston are named after the American Revolutionary War hero, Bernardo de Galvez. Needless to say, history is oozing from the walls of the Hotel Galvez so feel free to walk around the grounds and explore after locking up your Pedego. Once you have finished taking it all it has to offer, it’s time to hop back on your bikes and head to the next destination!

3. The Balinese Room Pier

Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the Hotel Galvez is the Balinese Room Pier. The Balinese Room was a famous nightclub that was built on a pier stretching 600-feet from the Seawall over the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. It opened in 1929 and for decades it featured a dance hall and illegal casino for tourists and residents alike. Many famous faces made their appearance at the Balinese Room, such as Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, George Burns, and The Marx Brothers. Sadly, in the morning hours of September 13, 2008 the structure was completely destroyed by Hurricane Ike.

4. Galveston Seawall and Grade Raising

Since Galveston is an island off of the Gulf Coast, it has fallen victim to multiple hurricanes and tropical storms over the years. However, it wasn’t until September 8, 1900 when a disastrous hurricane struck, that the need for a seawall was deemed necessary. At this point, it was the greatest natural disaster in U.S. history, taking 6,000 lives and causing $30 million dollars worth of damage. It was then determined that Galveston would need some sort of protection against these unpredictable disasters in the future, causing the seawall to begin construction. It was initially built 17 feet high (at low tide) and three miles long; yet over the years, the seawall has experienced lengthening additions to provide further protection. Additionally, from 1903-1911 the city of Galveston undertook extensive grade raising which not only provided support to the seawall, but also facilitated drainage and sewage systems making it one of the most brilliant feats of civil engineering in the history of the nation. After you witness this incredible structure, get ready for the fun to continue because your next stop is nothing short of a good time!

4901 Seawall Blvd.
Galveston, TX 77551

5. Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier

The Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier is your one stop destination for fun! Featuring waterfront entertainment like no other Gulf Coast destination, it is host to various family-oriented attractions including rides, midway games, a wide selection of food venues, and retail shops. The Pleasure Pier opened in the summer of 2012 and has something for everyone! You can lock up your Pedego and explore everything it has to offer before heading to your next stop. If you are interested in getting on some rides, all-day tickets are available for purchase so you can stop at the Pleasure Pier on your way to the end of the Seawall and back to enjoy some fun.

2501 Seawall Blvd
Galveston, TX 77550

6. Turtle Mural – Menard Park

Get your cameras ready for this stop, because it is picture worthy to say the least! The Turtle Mural at Menard Park is designed to raise awareness about the Flower Gardens Banks National Marine Sanctuary and sea turtles, which was made possible with support of the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation. It now stands tall as a public art piece to educate tens of thousands of residents and visitors about sea turtles and the sanctuary. Snap a few photos or selfies in front of the Turtle Mural and share with your friends, as you might create a chain reaction and educate someone else about the efforts to save the sea turtles.

Galveston, TX 77550

7. Gaido’s Restaurant

Have you already worked up an appetite? No problem! Gaido’s Seafood Restaurant is the perfect place to stop for a bite to eat along the Seawall. Not only does Gaido’s serve delicious seafood, but it also offers a rich history as it first opened their doors to the beach-going public in 1911. San Giacinto Gaido started the restaurant with the intention of being the freshest fish house on the Gulf, and the restaurant has maintained that same reputation today– over a 100 years later. Gaido’s remains passionate about their food with their main focus on taste and serving up delicious meals to regulars and visitors alike. Before you continue your trip down the Seawall, be sure to grab a refreshment and a tasty meal at Gaido’s– you won’t regret it!

3828 Seawall Blvd.
Galveston, TX 77550

8. Fort Crockett Park

The Fort Crockett Park was built in 2012 and funded by the snack company, Frito Lay, for one million dollars. It is located in the Hampton Battery area along the Seawall, and offers planters, benches, picnic tables, and special plaques that tell the native story of the Seawall. Fort Crockett Park reaches from 45th to 51st Street, ending at what is known as the Izard Battery. These battery areas, which jut outwards toward the surf, are part of the original military installations at Fort Crockett. Don’t hesitate to lay out a blanket on the sand or relax on a park bench and take in the gorgeous seaside views before continuing on to your next stop.

4755-4881 Seawall Blvd.
Galveston, TX 77551

9. Fort Crockett

At the far end of the park is Fort Crockett itself, which was originally built in an effort of defense to protect the city, harbor, and bay entrance of Galveston. Fort Crockett was initially in charge of protecting the commercial and industrial ports of both Galveston and Houston, as well as the extensive oil refineries in the bay area. What was once a military facility, is now managed by the US National Marine Fisheries Service, and hosts the Bureau of Commercial Fisheries Laboratory, the Texas Institute of Oceanography, as well as some university facilities. The area still contains several historical buildings and military fortifications.

10. The San Luis Resort

To round out the perfect day, a stop at the San Luis Resort is a must! Whether you are looking for a bite to eat, a relaxing spa day, or an incredible hotel stay, the San Luis Resort has you covered. The San Luis Resort is known for its breathtaking view of the Gulf Coast and sits high atop an embankment containing artillery from the nearby Fort Crockett. In the 1980s, the San Luis Resort was built on and behind the site of the former Battery Hoskins. The massive concrete gun emplacements remain dramatically visible from Seawall Blvd, although one gun emplacement now sports a swimming pool atop it, and the other gun emplacement is adorned with a wedding gazebo. Explore the San Luis Resort or grab a bite to eat at one of their restaurants before heading back to Pedego Galveston and finishing up your ride along the Seawall!

5222 Seawall Blvd.
Galveston, TX 77551

11. West End of Seawall

If you are up for one more stop before heading back, you will be at the West End of the Seawall as you exit the San Luis Resort. Be careful because the sidewalk ends here and drops off, but it is the perfect spot to lock up your Pedego and watch the sunset, since you will be looking due west. Lay out a blanket or grab a lawn chair to gaze upon the gorgeous view, as this is truly the best way to complete your epic day of fun!

The Best Pedego Bike For Your Ride

The best bike for your ride down the coast is the one you feel most comfortable on, but if you wanted our opinion we would recommend the Pedego Comfort Cruiser.

The Comfort Cruiser is the original Pedego electric bike, which has been known to turn heads and guarantee a smile while riding one. The Comfort Cruiser will not only provide an enjoyable ride but will offer a comfortable one as well– making this 18 mile round trip a piece of cake. 3. Sun Gold Point

After you have gotten back on your Pedego, it’s time to head to the next stop on your tour– Sun Gold Point. Sun Gold Point is a rock jetty that protrudes out from the rock cliffs along the La Jolla coast, and when the sun hits it just right, it looks as if it is a ray of sunshine. It is known for being a great place to watch both sunrise and sunset; however, no matter what time of day you go, Sun Gold Point is the perfect place to snap some photos to commemorate the day.

5. Windansea Beach

The next stop on your coastal ride is Windansea Beach, located adjacent to the synonymously named Windansea neighborhood. Ever since the 1940’s Windansea Beach has been known as a surfing hot spot, as it later gathered the attention of the surfing community thanks to the Windansea Surf Club. The Windansea Surf Club’s original members included many famous local San Diego surfers such as Chuck Hasely, Mike Hynson, Skip Frye, and Billy Caster who frequented the surf spot during the 1960s. Today, the Windansea Beach remains a well-regarded surf spot since its sloped ocean floor creates powerful waves. Another noteworthy feature of Windansea Beach is the palm-covered shack that sits among the shore. Known as the Windansea Beach Surf Shack, it represents the carefree luau days of the past and is currently a protected historical landmark. Before heading out to your next stop, be sure to snap a few photos of the ocean views or grab some selfies in front of the Surf Shack!

As you might have guessed from the name, Shell Beach, is famous for its many shells that line the sand. The beach isn’t incredibly big since it is bookended with bluffs, but at low tide, the beach seems vast. Take a walk along the beach and pick out some unique shells before going back up the stairs to your next stop.

10. Ellen Browning Scripps Park – La Jolla Cove

Once you hike back up the stairs, you are at the Ellen Browning Scripps Park! This is a popular place in La Jolla for tourists and residents alike, to hang out. It is also one of the most photographed locations in all of San Diego with three gorgeous beaches, a scenic park, and an ideal lookout for whale-watching and witnessing beautiful sunsets. Hop back on your Pedego and head to La Jolla Cove which is the most northern beach out of the three. This beach tends to get pretty packed, so don’t be afraid to use your bell here but always be sure to ride safely and stay aware of others. Once you arrive at the La Jolla Cove there are a variety of activities to enjoy like tidepools at low tide, a cave built to climb through, and more often than not you will be able to see a gang of harbor seals basking in the sun and posing for photographs.

Throughout the years the Brockton Villa has been home to many unique people and businesses, but in 2005 it was purchased by Megan and Dave Heine who wanted to expand their family restaurants to the Bird Rock area. The Best Pedego Bike For Your Ride

Pedego La Jolla offers Pedego’s full lineup of bike options for rental, but our recommendation for this ride is one of our Interceptors. The Pedego Interceptor is America’s best selling electric bike, as it combines beach cruiser comfort and style with breathtaking performance and user-friendly features. It will allow you to ride with ease through La Jolla, and if it feels like it was made just for you– that’s because it was!

You can get a good workout by altering your Pedal Assist settings or use the throttle and cruise along if you are interested in a more laid back ride.

2. MacArthur Memorial

The first stop is at the MacArthur Memorial, located a few blocks from Pedego Norfolk. The MacArthur Memorial is a museum and research center dedicated to preserving and sharing the life of Army General Douglas MacArthur. The Memorial is located in the original Norfolk City Hall building and houses the tomb of both General MacArthur and his late wife. It also pays tribute to the men and women that fought alongside the General during his tenure in the Army and holds exhibits featuring artifacts, uniforms, medals, and weapons that belonged to MacArthur himself. Before taking off to your next destination, snap a few photos out front as the outside of the building is a momentous part of history you won’t want to forget.

3. Owen B. Pickett U.S. Customs House

Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the MacArthur Memorial is the Owen B. Pickett U.S. Customs House. Established by the First Congress in 1789, The U.S. Customs Service is the oldest federal agency. It is known for assessing and collecting duties and taxes on imported goods, controlling carriers of imports and exports, and combating smuggling and revenue fraud. The Owen B. Pickett U.S. Customs House is located near the waterfront of downtown Norfolk and is a testimony to the importance of commerce and trade within the city. Construction on the building was completed in 1858, and it stands tall in the same place decades later as a historic pillared building for tourists and residents alike to visit. Once you have finished taking in all that the Customs House has to offer, it’s time to hop back on your Pedego and ride to your next stop.

101 E. Main St.
Norfolk, VA 23510

4. Town Point Park

Don’t ride too fast, because located a short distance away is the beautiful Town Point Park! Town Point Park is known as “The People’s Park” as it provides 8 acres of relaxing outdoor spaces, nestled upon the riverbanks of the Elizabeth River and located in the heart of the business district in downtown Norfolk. Often the park holds major outdoor concerts, award-winning festivals, and special events including Norfolk Harborfest, Bayou Boogaloo, and 4th of July celebrations. What makes Town Point Park special though, is it offers a green space of peace and tranquility in the middle of an urban setting. Feel free to take a break from your Pedego tour and lay out a blanket or have a picnic on the grass to enjoy the juxtaposition between nature and city life.

5. Armed Forces Memorial

Located in Town Point Park is the Armed Forces Memorial which is a truly moving tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice to serve our country. It is a 160-foot monument with 20 bronze cast letters scattered across the base of the flagpole, which are actual letters written to loved ones by members of the Armed Forces who never returned from war. This monument was built in 1998 and is dedicated to veterans of American conflicts from the Revolutionary to the Persian Gulf War. Before riding to your next destination, take a free moment to read the letters and reflect on the meaning behind them, if you please.

6. Pagoda & Oriental Garden

Get your cameras ready for this next stop, as it is one of the most picture-worthy locations on this tour! The Pagoda and Oriental Garden are located on the waterfront in the Freemason Harbor, just a few minutes from the bustling city activity in downtown Norfolk. Once you enter the gates of the garden you will be welcomed by the gentle swaying of bamboo and experience a serene oasis where East meets West over an acre of urban space. The two-story Pagoda is a piece of history in itself as it sits on the concrete foundation of an old molasses tank and has influences of Chinese architectural details and ornamentation. If you go to the second floor of the Pagoda, you will be welcomed with a panoramic view of the surrounding Oriental Garden, the USS Wisconsin, and a beautiful outlook over the Elizabeth River. After you take a few photos in front of these gorgeous views, it’s time to head to the next historic destination on this tour.

265 W Tazewell St.
Norfolk, VA 23510

7. Selden House

Located along the waterfront is the Selden House, which is the home of Dr. William B. Selden, who served as the Surgeon General of the Confederate Army. He is famously known for hosting Robert E. Lee at his home when Lee traveled through Norfolk after the war. The house stands tall in exceptional condition even though it was constructed in the 1800s, and is one of Norfolk’s noteworthy landmarks.

351 Botetourt St.
Norfolk, VA 23510

8. Hague Bridge

A short bike ride away is the Hague Bridge located in the Ghent neighborhood of downtown Norfolk. Once you arrive here, be sure to get off your bike and walk it across the bridge as it is a footbridge and no bicycle riding is permitted across it. However, it is a great place to snap a few photos as it looks out over the water and is decorated with new and old padlocks which symbolize the eternal, never-ending love of couples, or even the commemoration of a beloved one, who has passed. If you have the opportunity to, bring a padlock with you on your Pedego ride so you can add it to this historic bridge, and it will be there for years to come.

9. Plum Point Park

The next stop on this tour is Plum Point Park, which is located on 5 acres of land and is a site for environmental restoration. The park has direct access to the Elizabeth River and occupies a prominent point adjacent to the historic Fort Norfolk. Offering magnificent views of the river from a park-like setting, the City of Norfolk initiated plans to protect the natural character of this site by converting this once developable waterfront into a public park. If you want to take a quick rest from your ride, lock up your Pedego and go on a stroll through the park or layout on the grass and take in the beautiful views surrounding you– you won’t regret it!

10. Chrysler Museum of Art

Once you get back on your bikes it’s time to head to the Chrysler Museum of Art. The Chrysler Museum of Art was founded in 1933 and originally named the Norfolk Museum of Arts and Sciences. It wasn’t until 1971 when the automotive heir, Walter P. Chrysler Jr., donated most of his extensive art collection to the museum when the name officially changed to what we know now. Today, the Chrysler Museum has fifty galleries, a growing collection of over 30,000 objects, an interactive space for families, and the only glass studio of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic region. Admission to the museum is always free, so feel free to hop off your bikes and take a look inside at all the amazon works of art inside.

1 Memorial Pl.
Norfolk, VA 23510

11. Hunter House Museum

Once you finish touring the Chrysler Museum, it’s time to make your way to the next museum on the tour, the Hunter House Museum. The Hunter House is a Victorian museum that was built in 1894 and is located in the Freemason Historic District of Norfolk. It was the family home of Mr. James Wilson Hunter, his wife Lizzie Ayer Barnes Hunter, and their three children James, Harriet, and Eloise. With no heirs and Eloise as the last surviving member of the family, she created the Hunter Foundation. Depending on which time of year you visit, guided tours are available from April through December. Take a peek inside at the gift shop or take a guided tour along your way, as the Hunter House is filled with various facets of Victorian social history and custom.

240 S. Freemason St.
Norfolk, VA 23510

12. Moses Myers House

The next stop on the tour is the Moses Myers House, just down the road from the Hunter House Museum. “The Moses Myers House and its peerless collection create an exceptionally accurate picture of the late Federal period and the life of this prosperous Jewish family,” says Chrysler Museum of Art. Moses Myers was an early American entrepreneur, and model citizen, who built this house to accommodate his growing family and social prominence. Over the years, this house was passed down from generation to generation within the family and eventually to the Mayor of Norfolk, Barton Myers, who carried out early architectural restoration in 1892. This museum is only open on Saturdays and Sundays; however, admission is free so feel free to lock up your bikes and wander around inside to learn more about Moses Myers and the history behind this property. After you’re done looking around, the last stop on the tour is just a short distance away!

323 E. Freemason St.
Norfolk, VA 23510

13. British Cannonball in Saint Paul’s Church

Your last stop before heading back to Pedego Norfolk is at Saint Paul’s Church. Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church is a historic church, constructed in 1739. It is the sole colonial-era building that survived the multiple wars that Norfolk faced over the years. At the church, there is a cannonball in the side of the wall, which was fired by Lord Dunmore on January 1, 1776, and currently stands as a reminder of the final act of the fleeting governor amidst a revolution. The cannonball is a unique sight to see, so snap a few photos before heading back to your starting point at Pedego Norfolk.

2. Dallas Farmers Market

Once you leave Pedego Dallas, you will ride through Deep Ellum to the Farmers Market District located in downtown Dallas. The Dallas Farmers Market is a large public market that features three different types of sellers: produce dealers, wholesale dealers, and local farmers. While there, you can browse the cool artist shops and check out local produce while the Tour Guide orders your first round of delicious tacos. Be sure to enjoy some Elote, a signature Mexican corn specialty, with your tacos before you take off to your next destination!

3. Omni Hotel Dallas

Get ready to snap some photos, because the Omni Hotel is home to one of the best photo opportunities on the tour. Every Omni Hotel captures the essence of each city’s culture through its choices in local art, cuisine, fashion, and interior design– the Omni Dallas is no different. Housing over 7,000 original pieces of art by local artisans, one of the most notable at the Omni Dallas is The Pegasus– a neon red horse that stands tall outside of the hotel to welcome guests as they enter.

From 1934 to 1999 the iconic Pegasus stood 450 above the street on top of the Magnolia Oil Company headquarters. At this time, the Pegasus was known to Dallas residents as “The Flying Red Horse” acting as a signal to travelers from all directions that they were approaching city limits. After years of wear and tear, the original was taken down and packed away until locals decided to restore it, and in 2015 the Pegasus was brought to the Omni Hotel after approval from the city of Dallas. Don’t forget to snap a few photos in front of the Pegasus before heading to your next destination, because this is one of Dallas residents’ most prized landmarks.

3. Jefferson Avenue Viaduct

Before you hit your next destination, take a quick pit stop on the Jefferson Street Viaduct. This bridge-like structure is one of the best places in all of Dallas to get a photo in front of the beautiful skyline. Take a selfie or gather with friends and family, because this a picture you won’t regret taking.

4. Bishop Arts District

The Bishop Arts District is known as Dallas’ most independent neighborhood. Home to over 60 independent boutiques, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and art galleries the Bishop Arts District is sure to provide a unique experience for your Pedego ride. The Bishop Arts District is a neighborhood rich in history, as it was the site of Dallas’ busiest trolly stop in the 1930s. Currently, it has more of a small-town feel and its ‘hidden gem’ appeal has fostered a close-knit community.

Here at the Bishop Arts District is where you will enjoy the second taco stop on your guided Taco Tour, so feel free to sit back and take in the local scenery as you eat. Before taking off to your next stop, however, lock up your bikes and take a look around at all the Bishop Arts District has to offer– we bet that you find something interesting!

5. Deep Ellum

The next stop on your tour is Deep Ellum located in downtown Dallas. This is where the guide will take you to the last taco restaurant on the tour– but don’t worry there is still more to see in the beautiful city of Dallas!

Deep Ellum was founded in 1873 and is Texas’ destination for arts, music, culture, and innovation. Known as the live music capital of North Texas as well as the hub for the performing arts for both theater and comedy– Deep Ellum is the ideal place to go for entertainment in Dallas. If you’re looking for another great photo opportunity, Deep Ellum has many vibrant street murals that make the perfect backdrop for any picture. Once you’ve soaked up all the culture in Deep Ellum it’s time to ride to your last stop on the tour.

6. The Giant Eyeball

We saved the best for last because The Giant Eyeball might be the most picture-worthy destination on the tour! Standing 30-feet tall, The Giant Eyeball is a realistically rendered fiberglass sculpture of a giant human eyeball located in a fenced garden in Downtown Dallas. Created by artist Tony Tasset in 2007 as part of a temporary display in Chicago, The Eye, as it was originally named,  finally made its way to Texas in 2013 when it was purchased by the Joule Hotel. It was purchased by the hotel to add to their expansive art collection and provide an anchor for their downtown location.

The Giant Eyeball is a must-see attraction for any tourist or resident of Dallas, so no matter if this is your first time seeing it or you pass it every day during your commute- The Eye never gets old!

The Best Pedego For Your Ride

The best bike for your 10-mile ride through Deep Ellum is the one you feel most comfortable on, but if you wanted our opinion we would recommend the Pedego Interceptor. The Interceptor is America’s best-selling electric bike and has been known to turn heads and guarantee a smile while riding one. The Interceptor will not only provide an enjoyable ride but will offer a comfortable one as well– making this 10 mile round trip a piece of cake. During your ride, you can use the pedal assist settings on the Interceptor to get some exercise, or sit back and enjoy the ride by using the throttle, or even use a mixture of both!

If you are unsure about which model might be best for you, the Pedego Dallas staff are more than happy to assist you. To check out the wide range of Pedego electric bikes available, check them out here.

Once you leave Pedego Aiken, it’s time to meet at the Newberry Street Fountain where a local historian will meet you to begin the tour. 3. Site of Aiken’s 1953 Gas Explosion

Once you meet with the local Aiken historian, it’s time to head to the first stop on the tour and it is one that is extremely well known throughout the city– the site of Aiken’s 1953 Gas Explosion. Located on Laurens Street, the infamous event occurred on the morning of Tuesday, January 27, 1953, when a natural gas leak ripped through the basement of Jones Electric Company. The leak caused an instant fire and immediate explosion which left the whole street in flames and the ground shaking over a mile away. The detrimental event took ten lives that day, but the memory of them is still remembered by a plaque that has been placed in their honor by the Aiken County Historical Society.

4. Site of Historic Highland Park Hotel

Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Laurens Street, is the Site of the Historic Highland Park Hotel. Located atop a large hill near what is now The Aiken Golf Club, the Highland Park Hotel was booming in the 1890s before it tragically burned down in 1898. Surrounded by lush greenery, the surrounding areas of this site are utterly beautiful and would provide a great backdrop for a photo opportunity.

5. The Willcox Hotel

After you have taken some photos in front of the beautiful greenery, it’s time to head to one of the most beautiful landmarks on your tour. The Willcox Hotel is a white-pillared Colonial Revival landmark on the National Historic Register, which has been a prominent fixture in Aiken since 1898. The architecture of the Willcox hotel is definitely picture-worthy as its white-columned front porch, lined with rocking chairs, is nothing short of inviting. Lock up your bikes and wander into the hotel if you please, because the inside is as breathtaking as the outside.

If you’re interested in taking a quick pit stop on the tour, the award-winning Willcox Restaurant is a local favorite and a must-stop for all hotel guests. The Willcox Restaurant offers local favorites in an American bar and Gastropub setting; while also including vegan and vegetarian-friendly options to ensure that everyone’s dietary restrictions are happily met. The Willcox Restaurant also offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner so no matter which time of day you decide to stop by, they will be happy to serve you!

6. Aiken County Historical Museum

After you finish your meal at the Willcox Hotel, it’s time to hop back on your Pedego and head to the next stop on the tour. A short bike ride away is the Aiken County Historical Museum, which is set in one of Aiken’s famed “Winter Colony” cottages and synonymously known as “Banksia” after the Banksia Rose. What sets the Aiken County Historical Museum apart from most others is that it is a living museum, which is where exhibits change frequently and often consist of items residents bring in for special exhibits. This has created a sense of community amongst the people of Aiken as they celebrate items that are privately owned, yet also part of a shared history.

Once you have soaked in the local history of Aiken, jump back on your Pedego and get your cameras ready for the next stop on our tour, because you sure won’t want to miss capturing it!

7. Hopelands Gardens

When you think of Aiken, this is what should come to mind… the Hopelands Gardens. To say this location is picturesque would be an understatement, as the beauty of it is hard to capture in just a static photo. The tree-lined road will bring you back to simpler times and will make you feel like you are in a fairytale. This 14-acre estate was opened in 1970 as a public garden and the gorgeous trees sprinkled throughout are 100-year old live oaks and deodar cedars which give it a mystical feel. The Hopelands Gardens has become a popular wedding venue over the years and offers extensive greenery and winding paths providing a wonderful experience for people of all ages.

8. Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum

Located in the Hopelands Gardens is the Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum. It is known as the “Home of Aiken’s Racing Champions” and it celebrates the great tradition of horse racing and Aiken’s vital role in it. 9. Horse District

The next stop on your tour is Aiken’s historic Horse District. Ride your Pedego down winding clay roads, as you take in the sights of beautiful southern mansions and wide-open polo fields. The Horse District is a legendary equestrian community that is filled with miles of unpaved roads, quaint farms, and gorgeous natural beauty no matter which way you turn. As you’re riding it is not uncommon to see people riding horses, walking dogs, or horse-drawn carriages wandering along the clay roads, so be sure to share the road when riding through the Horse District.

10. Whitney Polo Field

Once you have ridden through the Horse District, only a few turns stand between you and the Whitney Polo Field. One of the oldest venues in the country for polo, the Whitney Polo Field, was established in 1882 and still holds polo matches to this day. If you’re lucky enough to catch a match when you’re riding by, be sure to stop for a second and take it in because it is an extremely fun sport to watch!

11. Famous South Boundary with Overhanging Oaks

Get your cameras ready for this next spot because this has to be the most iconic stop on the tour in terms of what you see all over the internet. The Avenue of the Oaks on South Boundary is one of the most beautiful places in all of Aiken… dare we say South Carolina as a whole!? The street is adorned with a striking canopy of oak trees which line the road, giving your Pedego ride an awe-inspiring backdrop. Look out for traffic, but be sure to snap a photo in the middle of the Avenue to fully capture the beauty this famous spot has to offer.

12. The Alley

After you ride through the iconic overhanging oaks, the end of your tour is near. The Alley is the end point for your tour through beautiful Aiken, and is home to the Alley Downtown Taproom where you can enjoy a nice refreshment after your ride. The Alley Downtown Taproom is the number one hot spot for craft beer in Aiken, offering 48 taps with a variety of different beer, ciders, wines, kombucha, sodas, and coffee. They have the drinks covered, but the Alley Downtown Taproom welcomes you to bring your own food from one of their neighboring restaurants: Whiskey Alley, Tako Sushi, Brew Pub, or Mellow Mushroom.

Pedego Aiken also invites you to come back to the Village at Woodside, located about 5 miles away and where their store is located, to shop and dine with them. Browse Pedego Aiken’s full inventory of bikes and accessories, and then finish your day up with a meal at one of their local eateries. Some of their favorite restaurants that are a must-visit are the Village Cafe, Roma’s, or AnShu Asian Cafe.

The Best Pedego Bike For Your Ride

Pedego Aiken offers Pedego’s full lineup of bike options for rental, but our recommendation for this ride is one of our Interceptors. The Pedego Interceptor is America’s best selling electric bike, as it combines beach cruiser comfort and style with breathtaking performance and user-friendly features. It will allow you to ride with ease through Aiken, and if it feels like it was made just for you– that’s because it was!

You can get a good workout by altering your Pedal Assist settings or use the throttle and cruise along if you are interested in a more laid back ride.

Corona Del Mar, California is a beautiful seaside neighborhood in Newport Beach that offers ocean views and gorgeous up-scale living. Whether you are a tourist or resident, Corona Del Mar is undeniably the perfect place to take in the best of what SoCal has to offer.

And what better way to take in the beachside sights of Corona Del Mar than on an electric bike? There is nothing better than buzzing around on your Pedego with lavish neighborhoods and the gorgeous ocean line as your backdrop. Pedego offers an easy and accessible way to travel through Corona Del Mar, as there is a Pedego store of their own located right in the heart of the city. So what are you waiting for? Grab your loved ones and cruise down to Corona Del Mar, because the only thing waiting for you is a good time!

Planning the Perfect Day

1. Start at Pedego Corona Del Mar

The best way to take in the stunning landscape of Corona Del Mar is on a Pedego! Pedego Corona Del Mar is the second store to ever open by Pedego and sits right off of Pacific Coast Highway and MacArthur in Newport Beach. It is a short distance away from Fashion Island, Roger’s Gardens, and Crystal Cove which are all iconic destinations that can be easily cycled to on your Pedego bike. However, our favorite ride is the route to the Wedge, which we have mapped out in this step by step blog!

Pedego Corona Del Mar offers Pedego’s full range of e-bikes for rental or purchase to ensure that you find the perfect fit for the day ahead of you. Whether you are interested in an Interceptor or Trail Tracker the friendly faces at Pedego Corona Del Mar are happy to assist you in finding which bike would best suit your needs.

With a Pedego bike, you have an option to get a workout in or to just sit back and enjoy the ride, and whichever way you decide to take your ride, we promise it will be fun! A common misconception about electric bikes is that they don’t enable you to break a sweat and get a workout in but that is far from the truth. Proving to break this stigma is the company Joy Ride, who has partnered with Pedego Corona Del Mar to provide training classes to Pedego owners which show them that they can indeed get good exercise on an electric bike. Independently owned and operated by Jeanne Ernst and Julie LaFond, master trainers with 33 years of cycling experience, Joy Ride will begin offering classes in 2021 on how to properly workout on an electric bike. If you are interested in getting involved with Joy Ride, be sure to contact Pedego Corona Del Mar.

Now it is time to take a joy ride of your own, and after you pick your bike model, it’s time to hit the road! Once you exit the store, the first stop is only a few blocks away from Pedego Corona Del Mar. Ride carefully through the neighborhood by abiding by the safety laws and make sure to keep an eye out for cars, but before you know it, you will be at your first destination!

2. Goldenrod Footbridge

The Goldenrod Footbridge was built in 1928 and connects the two segments of Goldenrod Avenue. Once you arrive at the bridge, be sure to get off of your bike and walk it across, because cycling is not permitted. The Goldenrod Footbridge is an iconic landmark in the Corona Del Mar community and is a great place to stop and snap a quick photo, as it is lined with beautiful, little pink flowers.

401 Goldenrod Ave.

3. Ocean Blvd. – Lookout Point

After you cross the Goldenrod Footbridge, you will head to Ocean Boulevard which is a street set high above Newport Harbor offering incredible ocean views and lined with multi-million dollar homes. No matter which direction you look, it is sure to provide an epic backdrop for your Pedego ride. Along Ocean Boulevard there are many places to stop and capture photos. One of our favorite places to stop and snap a photo is at Lookout Point, which is located at the end of Ocean Boulevard and overlooks Little Corona Beach. Whether it is a bright and sunny day or one that is slightly overcast, this view truly looks good in any light.

Once your photoshoot has concluded, it’s time to head to the next destination– but feel free to take your time because the ride in between is one you won’t forget. You will ride through the various neighborhoods of Corona Del Mar, one of them including Irvine Terrace, which is known as one of the premier communities in all of Newport Beach. The homes in this neighborhood were originally small beach houses that have been converted into unique estate homes. Each home is as different as the next, but the one thing they all have in common is– they are undeniably breathtaking.

4. Balboa Island

After you ride down El Paseo Drive from Irvine Terrace, make a right onto Bayside Dr and continue straight until you reach the stoplight at Jamboree Road. You may ride in the car left turn lane and wait for the left arrow, or use the pedestrian walk light depending on which route you feel more comfortable with. From there, get onto the sidewalk on the right side as it is divided for both walkers and bikers. After you cross the bridge, you have arrived on Balboa Island!

Balboa Island offers a quaint downtown experience, lined with small boutique shops, restaurants, and backdropped by marina views and small beach houses it truly is one of a kind. But before heading to the Balboa Island Ferry to cross over to the Balboa Peninsula, you must stop at one of the most iconic places Balboa Island has to offer… and lucky for you it is right in the middle downtown!

5. Sugar ’N Spice: The Original Frozen Banana

While you’re in Downtown Balboa on Balboa Island, there is one landmark you can’t bear to miss. Sugar N’ Spice is a Balboa Island staple and has been serving residents since 1945. They are known for being the one and only “original” shop to serve delicious sweet treats like frozen bananas and Balboa bars. These indulgences are made to order– each banana or Balboa ice cream bar is hand-dipped in milk chocolate, twice, and then rolled in the favorite toppings of your choice. Our personal favorite is a frozen chocolate banana with rainbow sprinkles.

Whether you decide to stop at Sugar ‘N Spice on the way down to the Wedge or on the way back, it is definitely worth the visit!

6. Balboa Ferry

The Balboa Island Ferry has been around since 1919 and provides transportation from Balboa Island to the Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach. It travels approximately 800 feet across Newport Harbor to deliver vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians from one side to the other. Fares vary depending on what form of transportation you take, but on your Pedego it will cost you $1.50 for adults, and 75 cents for children ages 5-11.

7. New York Style Pizza

Once you arrive on the Balboa Peninsula, just a hop, skip, and a jump away is New York Style Pizza. New York Style Pizza is a small eatery that offers amazing thin-crust pizza that is so large, a slice is almost as big as your head! Not to mention, it is close to the ferry drop off, so we suggest walking your bikes off of the ferry and locking them up right outside. It’s then time for the toughest decision of the day… What kind of pizza are you going to order?! Enjoy an individual slice or order a whole pie for the family, either way, you can’t go wrong.

After you finish your pizza, hop back on your Pedego because there is only one more stop on your tour, and it’s a good one!

8. Wedge

From New York Style Pizza ride straight through the Balboa Pavilion and onto the boardwalk bike path. If you are interested in another photo opportunity, walk your bikes onto the Balboa pier and snap a few shots with the Pacific Ocean in the background– it is truly beautiful!

Once you’re ready to get back on the bike trail, take it all the way to the dead-end before turning right on Balboa Blvd. and then right on G Street, and finally left on E. Ocean Blvd. From there, only one turn stands between you and the end of the journey so turn right onto Channel Rd. for your final destination. Here you will arrive at West Jetty View Park, home to the Wedge.

The Wedge is a famous surf spot in Southern California and offers epic waves and incredible views of Newport Harbor. When you look across the harbor at the West Jetty View Park you will be able to see Lookout Point, which is where you stopped earlier!

Before deciding to make your return trip, take a seat, snap some photos, and relax. The Wedge offers some of the best views in all of Newport. Whether you’re looking to see boats go in and out of the harbor, watch surfers catching some epic waves, or just bask in the sun while looking at the harbor-side houses, there is not a bad view in sight.

Between the wind blowing through your hair and the smell of saltwater filling the air as you cruise along, there is never a bad day to ride along the California coast.

Looking for a way to experience this yourself? The self-guided three pier tour, which starts at Pedego Huntington Beach, is sure to provide you with this opportunity. The tour will take you from Huntington Beach, through Newport Beach, and finally to the Balboa Peninsula giving you the ultimate display of what California living is truly like. There is no time to waste– grab your loved ones or just take the trip solo because the perfect day awaits!

Couple riding their bikes by the beach.

Plan the Perfect Day

1. Pedego Huntington Beach

What better way to travel along the coast than on your Pedego? Pedego Huntington Beach offers a full range of e-bikes for rental or purchase to ensure that you find the perfect fit for the day ahead of you. From Interceptors, to Comfort Cruisers, to even the brand new Element, Pedego Huntington Beach has a plethora of choices. Don’t get too overwhelmed though, because this will be the only tough decision of the day!

With a Pedego bike, you are sure to have a great time, no matter what your fitness level or age is. Pedego allows you to get in a hard workout if you desire, or just sit back and enjoy the ride, and once you are ready to hop on your bike and get going, the first destination is only a short distance away.

2. Huntington Beach International Surf Museum

The ride may have been short, but it will definitely be worth it. Directly caddy corner to Pedego Huntington Beach is the Huntington Beach International Surf Museum, which you will be sure not to miss by the gigantic surfboard mounted to the side of the building. Huntington Beach is known as Surf City USA, as it was host to the first televised surf competition at the infamous Huntington Beach pier in 1963. To learn more about how the city has influenced the surf industry, the Huntington Beach International Surf Museum is sure to provide any and all information you are looking for.

3. Huntington Beach Pier

Once you have soaked up all the surfing knowledge the museum has to offer, it’s time to begin your journey to the first pier of the tour. You begin on the Huntington Beach Bike Trail with the pier front and center as you start off your ride. Whether it is a hot summer day or a chilly evening at golden hour, it is hard not to admire the beautiful landscape around you.

The Huntington Beach Pier is a historic landmark in Surf City and has evolved greatly over the last hundred years. Three prior versions of the pier stood tall to where it does now but had all been defeated by the force of Mother Nature. The current version of the Huntington Beach pier has been around since 1992 and is built of the most durable materials to ensure that it can withstand any storm.

Ready for a photo opportunity? Lock up your bikes, and snap a picture on the sand in between the iconic legs of the pier, or walk along the pier itself and get a photo with the beautiful Pacific Ocean in the back. Also, if you’re looking for a little fuel to get your ride started stop at Ruby’s Surf City Diner located at the very north end of the pier for a delicious burger or a shake.

Main St. and Pacific Coast Highway

4. Huntington Beach Bike Trail

Once your photo shoot is complete at the Huntington Beach Pier, it is time to head down the bike trail and onto the next location. Huntington Beach is known for having one of the best bike trails in Orange County, as its popularity stems from how vast the trail is– making it adored by cyclists, joggers, and skaters alike. Depending on what time of day you take the ride, you will be greeted with sights of families playing on the beach, intense volleyball games underway, or surfers running out to catch their next wave. If you’re taking this ride in the evening you may be lucky enough to be welcomed by the smell of bonfires and BBQs as friends share some laughs and s’mores around the fire.

When you get to the end of the Huntington Beach Bike Trail, there is a good location for a photo op before you go across the Santa Ana River Bridge. The turnout backs up to the Newport and Huntington Beach border and gives you a perfect view of the sparkling ocean behind you.

Next, take the Santa Ana River Bridge from Huntington to Newport where the next pier is only a few miles away!

5. Newport Beach Pier

As you ride in the bike lane towards Newport Beach Pier you are surrounded by quaint beach houses with people sitting outside on their patios, no matter what time of day or year it is. Once you hit 36th street, make sure to turn right and head south on the Newport Beach Boardwalk to continue your ride nearly steps away from the sand. You will be joined by many others either working out, riding their bikes, or just going for a stroll along the beach– so don’t be afraid to use your bell if necessary!

The second pier on the tour is in the heart of Newport Beach and home to the Dory Fleet Market. The Newport Beach Pier was completed as we know it today in 1888-1889, according to historians. Whereas, the Dory Fleet Market had its beginning in late 1891 when an enterprising fisherman tired of selling his fish through wholesale began marketing on the beach to the public. Both the Newport Beach Pier and Dory Fleet Market stand proud there today, bringing an Old World Charm to the modernity that the peninsula offers.

Near the pier, there are a variety of restaurants to choose from, but one of our favorites is Dory Deli . Dory Deli has something for everyone ranging from breakfast to dinner and coffee to cocktails– you name it, they have it! They are even vegetarian and vegan friendly, so if you’re traveling with a group they are sure to please everyone’s taste buds.

In the mood for something sweet? Stop by the Seaside Donuts Bakery right off the boardwalk. They offer a variety of different donuts from apple fritters, to classic glazed, to even cronuts! No matter what you get, it will surely be mouthwatering. Seaside Donuts Bakery is also open 24 hours a day so you can stop by at any hour during your ride.

6. Balboa Fun Zone

After you grab a bite to eat, it’s time to get back on your Pedego and make your way towards Balboa. As you ride along, it’s hard not to admire the beachfront properties that line the boardwalk, each of them exquisitely unique. It will definitely make you want to consider living there yourself!

Before you make your way to the third pier on the tour, take a pitstop at The Balboa Fun Zone for some good old-fashioned fun! The Balboa Fun Zone is a nostalgic little amusement park located on the Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach. It offers both harbor and ocean views and is a great destination for families to share some enjoyable memories. From bumper cars to carnival games, the Balboa Fun Zone is a must-stop on your journey along the Southern California coast.

7. Balboa Pier

Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the Balboa Fun Zone is the Balboa Pier and Pavillion. The Balboa Pier is the main focal point of the Balboa Pavillion which is a California Historical Landmark and a National Historic Place. The Balboa Pier was constructed in 1906 and is the second pier located in Newport Beach. It is a popular fishing spot for both mackerel and flounder, yet the pilings are home to a large population of starfish that are easily seen at low tide.

Right off the pier is the Balboa Peninsula Park, which is a great place to take a break, lay in the grass, and enjoy the scenery. The sprawling green grass is the ideal place to set out a blanket for a picnic or throw the frisbee around before continuing the ride on your Pedego.

8. The Wedge

If you dare to keep going, we promise it will be worth it! Continue to the end of the bike trail before turning right onto Balboa Blvd. and then right on G Street, and finally left on E. Ocean Blvd. From there, only one turn stands between you and the end of the journey so turn right onto Channel Rd. for your final destination. Here you will arrive at West Jetty View Park, home to the Wedge.

The Wedge is one of the most famous and well-known surf, bodyboarding, and body surfing spots in all of the state of California. It is usually populated by experienced surfers since it is not uncommon for large swells to come in and produce waves up to 30 feet high! If you are curious about the current conditions at the Wedge, you can check the live surf cam from Surfline to give you an up to date forecast.

Not into surfing? No problem! The Wedge is also a great spot to watch the sunset, or sit along the jetty and watch the boats come in and out of Newport Harbor. Feel free to grab a spot on one of the benches that overlook the harbor and sit back and relax, because it has to be one of the best views Newport Beach has to offer.
