2. Huntington Beach International Surf Museum

The ride may have been short, but it will definitely be worth it. Directly caddy corner to Pedego Huntington Beach is the Huntington Beach International Surf Museum, which you will be sure not to miss by the gigantic surfboard mounted to the side of the building. Huntington Beach is known as Surf City USA, as it was host to the first televised surf competition at the infamous Huntington Beach pier in 1963. 3. Huntington Beach Pier

Once you have soaked up all the surfing knowledge the museum has to offer, it’s time to begin your journey to the first pier of the tour. You begin on the Huntington Beach Bike Trail with the pier front and center as you start off your ride. Whether it is a hot summer day or a chilly evening at golden hour, it is hard not to admire the beautiful landscape around you.

The Huntington Beach Pier is a historic landmark in Surf City and has evolved greatly over the last hundred years. Three prior versions of the pier stood tall to where it does now but had all been defeated by the force of Mother Nature. The current version of the Huntington Beach pier has been around since 1992 and is built of the most durable materials to ensure that it can withstand any storm.

Ready for a photo opportunity? Lock up your bikes, and snap a picture on the sand in between the iconic legs of the pier, or walk along the pier itself and get a photo with the beautiful Pacific Ocean in the back. Also, if you’re looking for a little fuel to get your ride started stop at Ruby’s Surf City Diner located at the very north end of the pier for a delicious burger or a shake.

4. Huntington Beach Bike Trail

Once your photo shoot is complete at the Huntington Beach Pier, it is time to head down the bike trail and onto the next location. Huntington Beach is known for having one of the best bike trails in Orange County, as its popularity stems from how vast the trail is– making it adored by cyclists, joggers, and skaters alike. Depending on what time of day you take the ride, you will be greeted with sights of families playing on the beach, intense volleyball games underway, or surfers running out to catch their next wave. If you’re taking this ride in the evening you may be lucky enough to be welcomed by the smell of bonfires and BBQs as friends share some laughs and s’mores around the fire.

When you get to the end of the Huntington Beach Bike Trail, there is a good location for a photo op before you go across the Santa Ana River Bridge. The turnout backs up to the Newport and Huntington Beach border and gives you a perfect view of the sparkling ocean behind you.

Next, take the Santa Ana River Bridge from Huntington to Newport where the next pier is only a few miles away!

5. Newport Beach Pier

As you ride in the bike lane towards Newport Beach Pier you are surrounded by quaint beach houses with people sitting outside on their patios, no matter what time of day or year it is. Once you hit 36th street, make sure to turn right and head south on the Newport Beach Boardwalk to continue your ride nearly steps away from the sand. You will be joined by many others either working out, riding their bikes, or just going for a stroll along the beach– so don’t be afraid to use your bell if necessary!

The second pier on the tour is in the heart of Newport Beach and home to the Dory Fleet Market. The Newport Beach Pier was completed as we know it today in 1888-1889, according to historians. Whereas, the Dory Fleet Market had its beginning in late 1891 when an enterprising fisherman tired of selling his fish through wholesale began marketing on the beach to the public. Both the Newport Beach Pier and Dory Fleet Market stand proud there today, bringing an Old World Charm to the modernity that the peninsula offers.

Near the pier, there are a variety of restaurants to choose from, but one of our favorites is Dory Deli . Dory Deli has something for everyone ranging from breakfast to dinner and coffee to cocktails– you name it, they have it! They are even vegetarian and vegan friendly, so if you’re traveling with a group they are sure to please everyone’s taste buds.

In the mood for something sweet? Stop by the Seaside Donuts Bakery right off the boardwalk. They offer a variety of different donuts from apple fritters, to classic glazed, to even cronuts! No matter what you get, it will surely be mouthwatering. Seaside Donuts Bakery is also open 24 hours a day so you can stop by at any hour during your ride.

6. Balboa Fun Zone

After you grab a bite to eat, it’s time to get back on your Pedego and make your way towards Balboa. As you ride along, it’s hard not to admire the beachfront properties that line the boardwalk, each of them exquisitely unique. It will definitely make you want to consider living there yourself!

Before you make your way to the third pier on the tour, take a pitstop at The Balboa Fun Zone for some good old-fashioned fun! The Balboa Fun Zone is a nostalgic little amusement park located on the Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach. It offers both harbor and ocean views and is a great destination for families to share some enjoyable memories. From bumper cars to carnival games, the Balboa Fun Zone is a must-stop on your journey along the Southern California coast.

7. Balboa Pier

Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the Balboa Fun Zone is the Balboa Pier and Pavillion. The Balboa Pier is the main focal point of the Balboa Pavillion which is a California Historical Landmark and a National Historic Place. The Balboa Pier was constructed in 1906 and is the second pier located in Newport Beach. It is a popular fishing spot for both mackerel and flounder, yet the pilings are home to a large population of starfish that are easily seen at low tide.

Right off the pier is the Balboa Peninsula Park, which is a great place to take a break, lay in the grass, and enjoy the scenery. The sprawling green grass is the ideal place to set out a blanket for a picnic or throw the frisbee around before continuing the ride on your Pedego.

8. The Wedge

If you dare to keep going, we promise it will be worth it! Continue to the end of the bike trail before turning right onto Balboa Blvd. and then right on G Street, and finally left on E. Ocean Blvd. From there, only one turn stands between you and the end of the journey so turn right onto Channel Rd. for your final destination. Here you will arrive at West Jetty View Park, home to the Wedge.

The Wedge is one of the most famous and well-known surf, bodyboarding, and body surfing spots in all of the state of California. It is usually populated by experienced surfers since it is not uncommon for large swells to come in and produce waves up to 30 feet high! If you are curious about the current conditions at the Wedge, you can check the live surf cam from Surfline to give you an up to date forecast.

Not into surfing? No problem! The Wedge is also a great spot to watch the sunset, or sit along the jetty and watch the boats come in and out of Newport Harbor. Feel free to grab a spot on one of the benches that overlook the harbor and sit back and relax, because it has to be one of the best views Newport Beach has to offer.
