Monroe will ride her Pedego electric bike to complete her nearly 5,000-mile adventure
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Sept. 19, 2017 — No challenge is too big for Lindsay Monroe, 35, who walked 3,200 miles across America, from Myrtle Beach, S.C. to Lincoln City, Ore. From November 2016 to September 2017, Monroe walked through 13 states, including South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Idaho and Oregon.
Now the spirited, five-foot two-inch adventurer is headed back home, riding her 24-inch Pedego® Interceptor electric bike back to the East Coast. She will cover more than 1,700 miles through six states: Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. Altogether, her journey will take her nearly 5,000 miles.
Monroe’s sole companion has been Cynthiana, AKA “Thina,”a formerly stray dog named for the Arkansas state grape. Thina joined Monroe on her journey when she was working at an Arkansas vineyard. Along her journey, Monroe works for her keep at restaurants and other small businesses, staying in locals’ homes or camping.
A native of Rutland, Mass., Monroe was a bartender and professional photographer working 60 hours per week when she decided to walk across America and find new inspiration for her life. On her year-long journey, she has relied on the kindness of strangers for part-time work, food and housing. She has discovered that people are inspired by her endeavor, and most are happy to help her, even if their own circumstances permitted them to barely scrape together ten dollars.
On the trip back to the East Coast, Monroe and Thina will cycle through seven states. They embark on Sept. 26, in Tulsa, Okla., and will continue until Nov. 13, when they are expected to arrive in Richmond, Va. The route includes stops at the five Pedego electric bike stores listed below. Each location is preparing to welcome Monroe with bike tune-ups and hometown hospitality.
“It’s a joy to see America from a bicycle, especially with my dog Thina along for the ride in her trailer,” said Monroe, 35. “My Pedego Interceptor electric bike empowers me to easily visit sites that would be impossible to reach by car — and make a lot of new friends, too.”
The media is invited to visit with Monroe at the following Pedego store locations:
Tuesday, Sept. 26: Pedego Riverwalk, owner Matt Burkhart. Located at 500 Riverwalk Terrace #115, Jenks, OK 74037. (804) 343-1850
Saturday, Oct. 14: Pedego Franklin, owners Bob and Kemberly Harris. Located at 234 5th Ave N, Franklin, TN 37064. (615) 614-3814
Saturday, Oct. 21: Pedego Blue Ridge, owner John and Suzie Soave. Located at 757 E Main St, Blue Ridge, GA 30513. (706) 632-0020
Friday, Nov. 3: Pedego Myrtle Beach, owner Aaron Maynard. Located at 3080 Deville St, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577. (843) 602-6941
Monday, Nov 13: Pedego RVA, owner Buck Ward. Located at 1301 E Cary St, Richmond, VA 23219. (804) 343-1850
Monroe will be riding a seafoam green Pedego 24-inch Interceptor, which boasts a rugged 500-watt motor and a powerful 48-volt battery that will enable her to pull Thina’s pet trailer the whole way.
“Lindsay is an inspiration to us all,” said Pedego Electric Bikes CEO and co-founder Don DiCostanzo. “She shows us that we can take control of our lives, enjoy great adventures and make a lot of friends along the way.”
